- Portishead is back in the studio. While there is nothing to report on a new album they are working on a remix of ABBA's "SOS" for a new Tom Hiddleston film. Pitchfork has the story.
- One of my favorite Mac utilities is Bartender. Bartender helps manage and organize all the icons in your menu bar. Version 2 is out and provides full support for OS X El Capitan. Check out a mini review at iMore.
- The visual designer for the Gorillaz confirmed the rumors that they are currently working on a new album and it's due out in 2016. Check out some of the artwork over at Okayplayer.
- I'm not a huge fan of mashup style albums but the few I dig are put together quite creatively by Amerigo Gazaway. His latest album is a mashup of UGK x BB King and as the kids say it's "fire emoji". Free download on his Bampcamp site.
- Personally the novelty of Meow the Jewels has worn off. While for a great cause I can't get it into my daily rotation. Regardless, RTJ has dropped the first video from the album for "Oh My Darling (Don't Meow)" and it's as crazy as you would think. Check it out at The Fader.
- Jonny Greenwood recently sat down with a Russian radio station to discuss a variety of topics. Most important was the status of the next Radiohead album. Greenwood confirmed the album is done and they are currently planning the 2016 tour. Consequence of Sound has the story.

- According to MacRumors the Apple Watch 2 may arrive mid to late 2016. The report comes via Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri.
- A developer managed to create a MAME Emulator for tvOS for the new Apple TV. 9to5Mac notes that the developer is using a third party gaming controller to play the gaming titles.
- This week Pitchfork shared an announcement about a new collaborative project from Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces, and Thundercat called WOKE. They released their first single, "The Lavishment of Light Looking" featuring George Clinton.
- The New York Times ran a good feature on mobile content blockers. Brian Chen put some of the more popular ones to a test.
- Via Patently Apple we learn that yes, indeed, Apple has developed an iRing that hopefully will never see the light of day.

- The iOS 9.1 beta revealed NEW EMOJIS!!!! Included are the taco, the burrito and the middle finger. Yes the middle finger. As One Foot Tsunami points out, what a time to be alive.
- One of the apps I have been begging for in the new Apple TV is an official Plex app. IT World confirmed via email that Plex is currently working on a new app.
- If you want to read an in-depth review of iOS 9 checkout Macstories' Federico Viticci's 48,000, 23 page review. Yes you read that correct.
- Content Blockers are the new hot app for iOS 9 which allows you to block ads and trackers. Peace was launched by Overcast developer Marco Arment. It's one of my favorites.
- Thom Yorke released an eight minute epic track called Villain. A mix of IDM with vocals provided by Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Check it out at Consequence of Sound.

- An unexpected announcement came from Google this week as Engadget reports that Android Wear, the watch operating system for Google, now works with iPhones.
- Tons of rumors came out this week regarding Apple's event that is scheduled for next week. Apple TV specs, iPhone specs, a "planned" iPad Pro announcement and Cult of Mac sharing a photo of the Force Touch sensor in the iPhone 6s.
- The Dolphins made a roster move that some weren't happy with. Long time punter Brandon Fields was released and lost his job to rookie Matt Darr. Palm Beach Post has the story.
- MacRumors reports that CBS Sports will expand its streaming NFL coverage on the Apple TV to include Super Bowl 50 as well as other NFL games for free.
- One of the new features in iOS 9 are content blockers. This is one of the biggest features I am looking forward too. The mobile web has become a landmine field to navigate. iMore has an article discussing how content blockers will work with the new OS.

- As Pigeons and Planes points out the long awaited Meow the Jewels project has been completed. It's currently being sent off for mastering. Expect the release sometime in September.
- By way of The Platter comes a breakdown of the new features in Pocket version 6.0. Most notably Pocket introduced a Recommendations feature.
- Techcrunch penned a great article explaining the 9 features that Apple Music needs to win over power users. I agree with them all.
- As I've mentioned previously I'm a huge fan of Soulection. Most notably the Soulection Beats 1 show. Billboard did a fantastic profile on the collective.
- Another week, more 9to5Mac iPhone 6s rumors. This time we learn about the possibility of a 12 megapixel camera, 4K video recording and a flash for the front facing camera.
- Grantland has a great feature on Mac Miller. It's a long read but one of the better articles I've read on Mac.
- Miami HEAT owner Micky Arison wants you to let him know if you are down with a Miami Vice themed alternate jersey. Leave a comment on his Instagram.

- Following up on the news that The Dead Weather have a release date set for their next LP is a new track off the album called "I Feel Love (Every Million Miles) with an accompanying video. Pitchfork has the details.
- ODESZA released a new track in collaboration with Little Dragon called Light. We can also expect a deluxe edition of In Return September 18th which will include live takes and an instrumental version of the album.
- Macworld has some details on what to expect from the next Apple TV including a touchpad remote, Siri support and an App Store.
- Techcrunch has a fascinating piece of audio where Kim Dotcom discusses a potential deal between Universal Music Group (UMG) and Megaupload. The audio is pretty revealing in showing how much control lawyers actually have on the music industry.
- Dee Barnes, the well known host of the 90's show Pump It Up!, provided some detailed insight on Gawker into why she was left out of the N.W.A. Biopic Straight Outta Compton.
- RIP Sean Price. The Boot Camp Clik rapper died in his sleep two weeks ago. Today, his new EP is available on iTunes and Apple Music.
- The long rumored "iPad Pro" is getting closer to reality. According to AppAdvice Apple's large slate will apparently ship with iOS 9.1 and that the 2,732 by 2,048 resolution tablet has already been spotted in online logs.

- According to MacRumors the most recent iOS 9 beta added WiFi calling options for AT&T customers. The feature is working for a limited number of subscribers and may be undergoing testing prior to a public release with iOS 9.
- One of my favorite podcasters, Jason Snell, spent some time on the road with the iOS 9 version of Apple Maps during his trip to Seattle. He recaps his experience over on Six Colors.
- Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac broke some juicy details on how Force Touch will work in the next iteration of the iPhone. I plan on addressing some of my opinions on Force Touch in a blog post next week.
- Check out my buddy Roger's breakdown over on Phins or Die of the Miami Dolphins offensive line and his reasoning on why it might not be so bad afterall.
- Over on Quartz there is an interesting article diving into some stats on Beats 1. They wanted to get a sense of the station's tastes and habits and analyzed data on over 12,000 songs played on Beats 1 for a month.
- Pitchfork has an interesting behind the scenes look at the making of Dr. Dre's Compton Soundtrack which was released exclusively on Apple Music last week. This is definitely not the album Dre had been promising to deliver to the industry for the last 16 years.
- Google dropped a bombshell on Monday as they announced Alphabet as the new parent company of Google. Check out the press release for more details.

Friday is finally here. I was thinking about Friday the second I stepped into the office Monday morning. Here is what you may have missed this week and what I found interesting.
- The long awaited Big Boi and Phantogram collaboration has finally been completed. No date is available for the release of the album but we can expect it soon. The Fader has some details.
- An exciting report surfaced Tuesday about the possibility of Apple expanding the Beats channels. According to anonymous sources via 9to5Mac Apple's contracts with major music labels will allow expansion of Beats radio to five additional channels.
- Another week, another Apple rumor. This one from MacRumors via Digitimes which suggests the iPhone 6c will launch in the second quarter of 2016.
- iMore reports that five weeks after the launch of Apple Music the tech giant has reached the 11 million subscriber milestone. This is pretty impressive for a service that has been available for just over a month.
- Great interview over on Evening Standard with Jimmy Iovine. He goes into detail about Apple Music, Zane Lowe and facing the wrath of Taylor Swift.
- Speaking of Taylor Swift. She recently gave an interview to Vanity Fair and one of the revelations was regarding Apple Music and how she stood up to the tech giant which ultimately turned out to be a huge victory for both sides.
- Cult of Mac has an interesting nugget regarding a patent application recently filed by Apple. This new feature would add digital mixtape functionality to iTunes which would allow you to share custom created tapes with friends.
