Weekend Vibes #11

Talib Kweli and 9th Wonder - Every Ghetto (Featuring Rapsody)

Proper studio version of "Every Ghetto", single from Talib and 9th Wonder's album Indie 500 out November 6th. Track is produced by Hi-Tek and features Rapsody.

Added bonus. Check out Talib and Rapsody performing Every Ghetto live with The Roots on "The Tonight Snow".

Weekend Vibes #10

MF DOOM - Rock Co.Kane Flow ("Live" at III Points Festival - Miami, FL)

Nothing new about this one but DOOM and Ghostface Killah performed at the III Points Festival in Miami over the weekend. While the billing was deemed a live DOOMSTARKS performance DOOM only made an appearance via video.

What you see above is one of my favorite DOOM features, De La Soul's "Rock Co.Kane Flow". This video was provided by DOOM's new website GasDrawls.com

I almost rushed to this show simply to see DOOM but I feel like I would have been highly disappointed. Either way the video above is gold.

BONUS: Check out DOOM performing with De La Soul on Last Call with Carson Daly from 2009.

Happy Weekending!

Weekend Vibes #9

Run the Jewels - Rubble Kings Theme (Dynamite)

Run the Jewels is back for another submission to the Adult Swim Singles collection. Adult Swim started its free singles series back in 2010 and Run the Jewels have been involved since the group's inception.

This track was created for Rubble Kings which is a documentary about the evolution of New York City hip-hop in the late 60's and 70's.

The Rubble Kings Theme is a free download from the Adult Swim site. Also make sure to check out past singles series and download them all for free.

Have a great weekend.

Weekend Vibes #8

UNKLE - Eye for an Eye (Force Mass Motion vs Dylan Rhymes Remix)

When I used to dabble in DJing back in my college days this was one of my favorite tracks to mix. This is a remix of the already fantastic UNKLE cut from the album Never, Never, Land.

Enjoying the pulsing basslines of Eye for an Eye. Have a great weekend.

Weekend Vibes #7

Jonwayne - Luda Goes To Church and I DL Lex Luger's Drum Kit

That is not a typo. So here's the deal on this one. Jonwayne shared this mashup of Ludacris' "How Low" on his Soundcloud which includes a pretty sick hip-hop beat, the majority of which is comprised of church organ samples.

Jonwayne really doesn't give a crap and will make whatever he feels like making. He has turned out mixtape after mixtape of some of the sickest instrumentals I have heard since Clams Casino.

Vibe out to Luda Goes to Church. Have a great weekend.

Weekend Vibes #6

ZRO FOX - Might Not feat. Sasha Go Hard

I first heard of ZRO FOX from ProbCause who is responsible for the bangers LSD featuring Chance the Rapper and Three Course Meal featuring Chance and Action Bronson. I stumbled upon Might Not via ProbCause's Soundcloud. Might Not was supposed to get a retail release back in January 2015 but I haven't seen much  news since.

ZRO FOX is comprised of ProbCause and Hologram Kizzie. The track is produced by Wes P.

Have a great weekend.

Weekend Vibes #5

Big Grams - Fell in the Sun

Big Boi and Phantogram, otherwise known as Big Grams, dropped their lead single off the collaborative project EP this week and it's a banger. The EP is due out September 25th through Epic Records.

Pre-order here and check out the full tracklisting for the EP.

Have a great weekend.

Weekend Vibes #4

Mos Def & Ski Beatz - Sensei On the Block

I wasn't really feeling Yasiin Bey's recent release "Basquiat Ghostwriter" but he's back under his old moniker Mos Def and teamed up with Ski Beatz for "Sensei On the Block". This is some of the best stuff I've heard from Mos in a while.

Have a great weekend.

Weekend Vibes #3

Sir Jarlsberg - All's Faire (feat Aesop Rock, Kimya Dawson, Blockhead, Lateef, Jon Gibson and ALL CHUMS)

I can't recall exactly when I discovered Sir Jarlsberg. I was most likely diving into a YouTube or Soundcloud rabbit hole for Aesop Rock material I had never heard before. I stumbled upon the Sir Jarlsberg - All's Faire video which had the subtext "THE MOST INSANE POSSE CUT IN ALL OF HISTORY!". I knew I had to immediately dive in.

All's Faire may indeed be one of the most insane posse cuts I have ever heard. Jarlsberg used to go by the name Jer Gibson when he was with the now defunct label Definitive Jux and transformed himself into Sir Jarlsberg which is a comedy rap group that raps about dragons, archery and the like.

I'm not sure what the most insane part about this song is, the song itself or the video. Either way enjoy and feel free to follow along with the hilarious lyrics on Rap Genius.

Have a great weekend.

Weekend Vibes #2

Stro Elliot - Soul II Stro

I had never heard of Stro Elliot until I was introduced to him on Soulection Radio episode number 208.  Joe Kay dropped this track halfway through the episode and I damn near fell off my chair. Soul II Soul's Back to Life holds a special place in my heart and whenever I hear a remix of it I am all ears.

I'm not sure if anything will ever touch the reconfigured version of Back to Life from the movie Belly. DJ Clue asked Mary J Blige to provide updated vocals for the remix. Hype Williams ultimately went with the updated beat but used the original acapella.

Check out Stro Elliot and download his incredible beat LP Stro's Old Beat Farm.

Have a great weekend.
